Behind the music

About Malux.

Malux is the drum and bass alias of Alex Chambers, the producer also known as Skope. He separated the two names so that listeners and promoters could tell the fast, technical drum and bass from his wider bass-music experiments, rather than guessing what kind of set a booking would bring.

He had already spent years producing as Skope before Turbine introduced Malux through Bad Taste Recordings in 2016. Pendulum, Noisia, and Spor had drawn him towards drum and bass, although it was the UK dubstep scene that first pushed him into learning production.

Releases through Blackout, Eatbrain, and Evolution Chamber developed the Malux catalogue. On Mammoth, he set himself the challenge of building a track around one powerful synth sound. Ghost Train, with Hijak MC, and Jericho belong to the same period of work discussed in his 2023 UKF interview.

The split between aliases remains useful. In a 2026 interview about Skope’s Tempest, Chambers explained that Skope was receiving more of his attention again. Malux retains the neurofunk catalogue that made the separate name worthwhile, while Skope gives him room for slower rhythms and other forms of electronic music.
