Crissy Criss grew up around jungle, introduced to DJing by his stepfather Kenny Ken. He was playing on Kool FM while still very young, developing the mixing skills that became the foundation of a career spanning clubs, production and broadcasting.
His BBC 1Xtra drum and bass show gave new records a regular place on national radio. The selection brought emerging producers into the same programme as established names, while his own studio work developed alongside it. The radio career was one part of a broader musical background that also included dubstep, house and hip-hop.
War On Silence gave him a home for his own releases and collaborations. Airlock, made with Malux and Erb n Dub, introduced the imprint with a technical, heavy D&B track. The 2019 album War On Silence widened that approach, bringing in artists including Teddy Killerz, Heist, Inja and Carasel.
The album also included Real, a collaboration with WiDE AWAKE that reached beyond the underground club audience. That range reflects the different jobs Crissy has done throughout his career: finding music for a broadcast, making records with other producers and building a set for the people in front of him. The label brought those strands into a release programme he could shape himself.
