Behind the music
About Moving Fusion.
Moving Fusion is the drum and bass partnership of Jeff Langton and Daniel Sparham. Their catalogue is closely associated with RAM Records and recordings including Turbulence, The Beginning EP, and Atlantis EP. An original Viper Recordings announcement identifies both members, documenting the duo’s later return after a period pursuing separate projects.
In a 2003 interview with Shadowbox, the pair described cinema as a major source of musical ideas. Older, low-budget films particularly appealed to them because of the imaginative results their makers achieved with limited resources. Rather than concentrating only on a heavy beat, Moving Fusion wanted a track to suggest a picture in the listener’s mind.
Their studio approach combined Emulator samplers, software, and live instruments, including bongos and guitars. They also made music outside drum and bass, explaining that these experiments could generate ideas for their main project. The relationship between club impact and wider musical curiosity was central to the way they described their working process.
Their return included Black Belt on Matrix & Futurebound’s Worldwide:001 compilation, followed by the 2012 Viper single Attention. Released with Mystery Stranger and Tear Your Soul, it was presented by the label as dark, soulful bass music that could command a dancefloor without relying on a contest for the loudest sound.
