Behind the music
About Nectax.
Nectax is Newcastle producer Ollie Underhill, whose music has grown from liquid and jump-up into a much wider conversation between jungle, footwork, and club music. Breakbeats were there from the start, even before jungle became the centre of his catalogue.
His 2017 Riot EP paired liquid tracks with more upfront material. An EP on DJ Hybrid’s Audio Addict Records helped push him towards jungle, while Blindspot reached Chronic after a conversation with Bryan Gee at Jungle Dam. The music changed gradually as his interest in its history deepened.
Voychek appeared on Over/Shadow in 2023, followed by work with DJ Flight’s play:musik and Tim Reaper’s Future Retro London. His debut album, A State of Play, arrived on Over/Shadow in October 2025, bringing older jungle ideas together with present-day club and footwork rhythms.
He also runs Stereo 45 with Sketchy Rida and DJ Swarm. What began as friends planning Newcastle nights became a label, allowing them to keep working together after moving to different cities. That sense of community runs through his description of modern jungle: a scene where sharing ideas and taking an interest in the music still count for a great deal.
