Behind the music

About Paul T & Edward Oberon.

Paul T & Edward Oberon make drum and bass with a soulful edge and enough grit for the dance. Paul’s South East London background met Edward’s Welsh and New York musical history through AOL Instant Messenger, where a shared appreciation of their solo records became a working partnership.

They developed tracks separately before bringing the ideas together, keeping their own studios while performing as a pair. Their V Recordings releases include Sleepwalkers / Stomp: the former grew around a rolling bassline and vocal, while the latter brought trap, hip-hop, and a touch of jump-up into the same production.

Collaborations with Serum became another substantial part of their catalogue, including Moon in Your Eyes and Take My Breath Away. Wake Up and Somewhere Else show the duo’s interest in combining a song’s emotional pull with tougher bass, rather than making soulful music synonymous with quiet music.

They also launched GRAND NU MUSIC with Zac Calder. After years of passing promising tracks on to other labels, they wanted to give those producers a home themselves. Their stated remit leaves room for different styles, with memorable music and supportive working relationships at its centre. That label work extends the partnership beyond their own records, drawing on connections built through years of making and playing drum and bass.
