Behind the music
About PFM.
PFM is the British drum and bass project originally formed by Mike Bolton and Jamie Saker, with Bolton later continuing on his own. The name stands for Progressive Future Music. Its spacious arrangements and atmospheric breakbeats became closely associated with LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking and Looking Good labels during the 1990s.
Records including One and Only, For All of Us, and The Western place PFM within that early melodic strand of jungle. Danny’s Song, a tribute to Bukem, appeared on the 1996 Logical Progression compilation. The music paired rolling breaks with warm melodies.
Bolton also contributed Language of Love and Cruising Detroit to Moving Shadow’s Storm from the East in 1996, receiving writing, engineering, and production credits for both recordings. That work sits alongside PFM’s Good Looking catalogue, which was brought together again on Producer 02 in 2002.
Later recordings include Transformation for Odyssey Recordings and Body and Soul. His DJ work includes a showcase mix drawing on V Recordings’ Club Sessions Vol. 7.
