Behind the music

About Qumulus.

Qumulus came to drum and bass through a much wider life in dance music. Raised in West London, he began DJing hip hop at local parties before moving into warehouse raves and pirate radio. His early radio work covered house and techno as well as the drum and bass programme Journey Sessions, while production began with a Yamaha drum machine and a Roland MC-303.

Soul, electro, house, jazz, and orchestral music all figure among his influences. His name itself nods to a Blu Mar Ten track heard on LTJ Bukem’s Kiss FM show, and melody and soul run through the way he describes his work.

Bay 6 Recordings released Nothing Is Real / We Who Are Not As Others in 2022, a two-track project whose philosophical starting point drew on Eckhart Tolle. Goldfat released Truth with Kinsella, while his contribution Remember Everything, with Sofia Gunnarsson, appeared on the label’s 2025 anniversary collection G10LDFAT. Alongside those releases, his liquid drum and bass catalogue includes Sunbeam on Fokuz Recordings.
