Behind the music
About Rahmanee.
Rahmanee is a producer and DJ from Belgrade whose jungle carries a fondness for reggae, funk, and the energy of punk. Before electronic music, he listened to punk and rock; the route through techno and house eventually brought him to the breakbeats that became central to his own records.
He also worked as a promoter, bringing UK drum and bass DJs to Belgrade. Booking Aries grew into a friendship; when Rahmanee began making his own tracks, Aries supported the music and introduced him to the UK crews around Born on Road and Chopstick Dubplate.
His Bad Boy Steppa EP includes Wine It Up, featuring Junior Dangerous. The catalogue also reaches Sub Slayers through Funky Train / All That Bass, alongside Trouble and Miss You / Morning Theme, with later remixes bringing the earlier tracks back to new audiences.
In his Junglist Network interview, Rahmanee described a love of positive energy running through very different kinds of music. It helps explain why reggae belongs so naturally in his jungle rather than appearing as decoration. The heavy rhythm and the uplifting side of a record can share the same space, with his sets and productions drawing on both.
