Ricky Tuff

Ricky Tuff is a jungle and drum and bass producer and DJ based in the Canary Islands. His catalogue draws heavily on reggae vocals, connecting releases on Jungle Cakes with the wider Run Tingz Recordings circle.

Brighter Day, with Ras Mac Bean, appeared on Jungle Cakes, Vol. 13, followed by further work including Gwan Life and Footwork Skank / Gunshot. His remix of I Love Marijuana offers another example of the reggae material that has become a familiar part of his records.

For the 2014 NICE UP! vs. Maximum Sound: Jungle Soundclash release, he rebuilt Sound Exterminata around voices including Mr. Vegas, Burro Banton, Carl Meeks, and Fuzzy Jones. Maximum Sound’s Frenchie had opened the label’s archives for the project, giving Ricky access to a selection of recordings with real soundsystem history behind them.

Run Tingz also singled out his production approach when discussing the range within their label. Later work includes the remix of Fak a Dub and Mr Poison’s Siente with DS. Across those projects, the voice often comes first: a reggae performance carried into a new setting without losing the character that made it worth returning to.
