Behind the music
About Rregula & Dementia.
Rregula & Dementia began as a long-distance production partnership between Perth’s Rregula and the German producer Dementia. Their connection grew out of Shadybrain in 2006, when Dementia was asked to remix a Rregula track. DJ Trace wanted to sign the result for DSCI4; because the original had never been released, the pair recast it as a collaboration called Trippin Balls, with Sunk on the other side.
A 2009 Future Music feature described how they developed that working relationship through AIM. Rregula would send an idea, and Dementia would develop the arrangement and handle the mixdown. Several joint releases were already finished before they met face to face on Rregula’s first European tour.
Their neurofunk catalogue spread across DSCI4, Citrus Recordings, Disturbed, basswerk, and Trust in Music. The Basswerk pairing Loose Control and Slicey sits within that early period, alongside further collaborations with NME Click. Meeting in the same studio brought another way of working: City of Dogs was made at the NME Click studio, and a week together also produced the joint track Traffic. The partnership later released Turning Point through Citrus in 2014.
