Behind the music

About Satl.

Satl is the drum and bass project of Polish producer Adrian Rybka. His work first became associated with soulful, melodic records, but that description captures only part of a practice that also takes in darker club music and slower tempos. His releases have appeared on The North Quarter and Integral, while Nowheretobefound provides a separate outlet for lower-tempo material.

The process behind his debut album Gloom shows how those interests connect. Rather than writing to a predetermined release brief, Rybka described sharing finished tracks and test arrangements with The North Quarter’s Lenzman, then finding a project within that larger collection. More than 40 initial demos were reduced to the album’s 13 tracks.

Released in 2022, Gloom was intended to reflect the full range of music Rybka enjoyed making. Its darker drum and bass sits alongside breaks and garage, with the mood connected to Poland’s grey months. Vocal contributions from Rhi, Frank Carter III, and Saigo also form part of the record.

The album followed the Lucid Dreams EP and the techno-influenced LIN000 project.
