Closer to the artist.

Serial Killaz bring reggae and sound system influences into jungle, with a production partnership, Congo Natty connections, and their own record labels.

Behind the music

About Serial Killaz.

Serial Killaz are a British jungle production partnership whose music draws on reggae records, ragga vocals, and sound system culture. Their artist-controlled catalogue identifies both their own Serial Killaz imprint and Street Life Recordings, alongside releases for labels including Congo Natty and Playaz Recordings.

Speaking to Junglist Network, Tobie Scopes explained that the duo’s influences came largely from older reggae and ragga, rather than the contemporary dancehall sound. Horn sections, extended breakdowns, and the drama of sound clashes fed directly into their productions. That background helps explain why the music can feel connected to a reggae dance as well as a drum and bass club.

Their connection with Congo Natty includes production work and remixes. Scopes also identified Shut Up and Dance, the Ragga Twins, and Rebel MC as formative influences, describing the meeting of fast hip-hop breaks, reggae basslines, and MC vocals that drew him into jungle in the first place.

Running labels brought another side of that experience into focus. Scopes stressed that signing new producers meant looking for their own ideas, rather than copies of Serial Killaz records. His earlier Chimera release Deeper Life belongs to his pre-duo career; the Serial Killaz catalogue is a separate chapter, built around a shared reggae-informed jungle sound.
