Behind the music
About Skibadee.
Skibadee was a London jungle and drum and bass MC whose career stretched from pirate radio to international stages and recorded collaborations. Born Alphonso Bondzie in south London in 1975, his radio appearances and microphone partnerships made him a familiar voice within the rave scene.
He traced his start to a jungle night in 1993, after which he began MCing on pirate radio. Early appearances at Jungle Spirit introduced him to the DJs and MCs around London’s scene, and led towards a slot on Kool FM. His later career included touring with SHY FX and working alongside fellow MCs in SASASAS.
On Never Gonna Break, released in 2013, he performed alongside singer Lily McKenzie over production by Jordan Crisp.
His family announced his death in February 2022, at 47. The news prompted tributes from across jungle and drum and bass, reflecting the connections built through his radio work, stage partnerships, and records.
