Behind the music
About Something Something.
Something Something is Steffi Schulz, a German drum and bass DJ and producer from Schöneck whose route into production began on the dancefloor. After moving to London, she spent years attending drum and bass nights before an Andy C set at XOYO encouraged her to start DJing in 2019.
Within months she won the Hospitality on the Beach DJ competition in Croatia. Her first official single, Another Reason, featuring Nicole Thalia, arrived on Elevate Records in 2020. The transition happened alongside her work as a supply teacher, with lockdown giving her sustained time to concentrate on production.
In 2023 she joined Georgie Riot and Ruth Royall for Dark Days on Riot Records. Royall’s lyrics addressed violence against women, while Schulz and Riot developed the production through exchanged stems and studio sessions. Schulz described connecting personally with the song’s subject, making the collaboration a particularly direct expression of the experiences behind her music.
