Behind the music

About Survey.

Survey are the Berlin drum and bass duo of Stephan Albrecht and Hardy Schulz. They met in 2008 while playing records for friends at a local bar, began DJing together, and first shared a studio session in 2011. Their releases have appeared on Invisible, Dispatch, Flexout Audio, and Warm Communications.

Their production combines synthesiser-based writing with digital tools and samples. In a 2019 interview, the pair described dividing their work between hardware and software, with the studio based in Stephan’s home. They also discussed founding Acrylic with Welsh producer Quartz and their connection to Berlin’s Recycle nights at Gretchen.

On Dispatch, their Sidewalks and Basic Motion EPs preceded Life Cycle in 2019, which included the Phase collaboration Sensory. Survey returned to Flexout with the Breather EP in 2025. The four-track release includes Liters with Amoss, alongside Fresh & Easy, Choke Point, and True Peak.
