Behind the music
About Technical Itch.
Technical Itch is the drum and bass identity associated with Mark Caro and a history of dark, intricately programmed recordings. Its early development was closely connected to Darren Beale, also known as Decoder, with the two producers sharing studio work and several recording names. Their productions followed breakbeat beyond hardcore into darker jungle sounds.
AllMusic traces their initial collaboration to Plasmic Life recordings for Brain Records, before their work developed beyond hardcore into jungle. A move to Moving Shadow followed in 1996, with Diagnostics appearing in 1999. The album sits within the period described by AllMusic through techstep, dark atmospheres, and complex drum patterns.
Tech Itch Recordings, established in 1993, became an independent home for his music. The imprint connects early recordings with later projects under the Technical Itch name. His DF1 album, released in August 2026, includes Breach, Veil, and Recursion, with an eight-minute opening track and a preview of the follow-up.
His ambient work follows another route through the studio. Ambient 009, released in May 2026, was described by the artist as his first new ambient album in three years. Its eight pieces were recorded between regular sessions, giving that parallel practice a dedicated release alongside the more familiar drum and bass productions.
