Behind the music

About Unglued.

Unglued is Josh Brown, a producer and DJ associated with Brighton and Hospital Records. Before the project took shape, he made music under his own name. Its route to the label began unexpectedly: Nu:Tone heard tracks Brown had sent for mastering and brought them to Hospital’s attention. Childhood fishing trips with a relative had introduced him to early jungle, giving him an interest in the history of the music alongside his own production.

His remix of High Contrast’s If We Ever became a defining early release, winning Best Remix at the 2018 Drum&BassArena Awards. The range of his subsequent music was clear on the 2019 pairing of Born In 94 and Malware. The former drew on jungle and a recording of MC Conrad, while the latter was made with Phace. Discussing that contrast, Brown described the Phace collaboration as a futuristic dancefloor style and explained that he had wanted to make a jungle record for some time.

Interplanetary Radio, released in June 2021, expanded that approach into a debut album. Way Back When with Esther Durin brought an R&B vocal into jungle, while South By West reworked a jazz reference in a rolling drum and bass setting. The album also includes collaborations with Benny L, Javeon, and Singing Fats. Brown’s work now includes production coaching: his official website offers sessions built around producers’ own tracks, drawing on his experience as both a musician and a qualified teacher.
