Behind the music

About Vorso.

Vorso is British electronic producer Tom Slattery, whose music ranges across drum and bass, halftime, and more experimental club styles. His work with Inspected includes The Imperative and the twenty-track debut album Holonomy, released in October 2023.

The Imperative grew from ideas that could be both heavy and evocative. Tesla began as a halftime sketch, with an accidental movement of his keyboard’s pitch wheel changing the bass sound enough to suggest a new direction. He has spoken about wanting music to describe a place or an event, drawing on melody and cinematic atmosphere as well as sound design.

Halftime gave him room to explore that approach beyond familiar drum and bass structures. It is a part of his own production, not just a description of the artists he listens to, although his favourites include records by Emperor, Noisia, and Stray.

Holonomy took four years to complete and brought twenty tracks together over more than ninety minutes. Drum and bass sits alongside house, techno, and other electronic forms across the album. Its scale reflects the breadth of the project: Vorso works with bass music as a starting point, while leaving himself space to follow an idea into another style.
