Behind the label
The Armada Music story.
Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron, and David Lewis founded Armada Music as an electronic music company with a wide musical brief. Based in Amsterdam, it also operates in New York, London, and Laren, with ARTY, Eelke Kleijn, Joris Voorn, and Loud Luxury among its artists.
Drum and bass entered that catalogue through Sound of You by Pendulum and Armin van Buuren. The idea began as progressive house before a joint studio session in early 2024 led to a drum and bass version. It debuted at Tomorrowland Belgium that year and was released on 11 April 2025 with Rob Swire’s vocals. Armada presented it as Armin van Buuren’s first original track in the genre.
Armada University extends the company’s work into educational material and opportunities for producers. Drum and bass is one connection within that broader electronic operation, rather than its defining focus.
