Bryan Gee and Jumpin Jack Frost founded V Recordings in 1993, releasing early music from Bristol producers Roni Size, Krust, DJ Die, and SUV. Jazz, funk, reggae, and hip-hop became part of its sound alongside darker, more technical drum and bass, giving V a catalogue that reaches across several strands of the music.
Bryan’s 50-track Foundation, Part 1 collection follows the releases from 1993 onwards. The Bristol producers appear alongside Dillinja, Calibre, DJ Marky, and MC Fats, with Brazilian artists Alibi and L-Side also contributing alongside Command Strange and Paul T & Edward Oberon. The wider family includes Liquid V, Chronic, and Philly Blunt, each with releases under its own name.
V also supports musicians before they reach the release stage. Its six-month V Legacy programme is open to producers, DJs, vocalists, and MCs aged 18–25, combining production and performance workshops with A&R feedback. Participants can work on collaborations, learn about promoting their music, and meet labels, promoters, and distributors. Opportunities to perform at V-affiliated events and support beyond the programme connect that work with the same world of records and nights that Bryan and Frost began building in 1993.
