Inja is a Cambridge rapper, MC, and writer whose quick delivery and warm stage presence have made him a familiar voice in drum and bass. His background reaches beyond the music: hip-hop, spoken word, and work helping young people write all feed into the way he uses language. His name stands for Importance Never Justifies Anything.
His connection with Serum began years before Kings of the Rollers. They met in Belgium, later recorded together, and developed a working relationship that led to Inja becoming the group's frontman alongside Serum, Voltage, and Bladerunner. On Gunfinger Fam, Serum asked him to go all out with the bars. Inja obliged, packing the track with a density of words that surprised even him.
Signing to Hospital Records gave him space to make records centred on his voice. Blank Pages appeared in 2018, followed by Smile & Wave in 2021. Whiney produced the latter's 16 tracks, with guests including DRS, Fox, and Eva Lazarus. Its positive outlook came from Inja's determination to find something hopeful during a difficult period.
His writing also has a life away from beats. Through poetry and educational workshops, he has encouraged others to put their own experiences into words. On record and on stage, that interest in communication remains central: he can fire off a rapid verse, but he also knows when a room needs an invitation to join in.
