Tom Bassi founded Flexout Audio in 2011, building a catalogue with artists including Amoss, Arkaik, Philth, Charli Brix, and Data 3. Stripped-back rollers became a familiar part of its sound, although the releases also leave room for vocal projects, music around 140 BPM, and Harley D’s jump-up leanings. Minor Forms’ FWD and Data 3’s Geiger Counter are among its artist projects.

For much of that time, Bassi ran Flexout alone. Marcel Bößendörfer joined as co-owner in 2023, and the operation grew again in 2026 with the acquisition of Sofa Sound Bristol. The two labels retain their own names and artists, with Sofa Sound founder DLR continuing in A&R. The team planned to bring distribution, royalties, marketing, and release administration together gradually while preserving both catalogues.

Both also keep their artwork. Arkaik has worked closely with Flexout on its visual identity, while Adam Menzies’ illustrations remain part of Sofa Sound. The acquisition brings more people into the organisation behind the releases and events, while allowing the music and presentation of each label to continue under its own name.
