Dreazz and Drum Origin founded Fokuz Recordings in Rotterdam in 1999 after struggling to get their music released through established UK labels. Starting their own imprint gave them an outlet for those records, and melodic drum and bass became its focus. Within the wider group, Citrus covered neuro-influenced music and Piruh the harder sounds, leaving Fokuz to develop its soulful side.
Early contributors included Alix Perez, Electrosoul System, Physics, and Syncopix, with BCee, Icicle, and Naibu also appearing in the catalogue. Over time, releases from Malaky, Satl, and Silence Groove continued that liquid tradition. Fokuz has kept releasing individual artist projects alongside collections of music from across the roster, including Fokuz On Fokuz: Liquid Drum & Bass Vol. 1 in December 2025.
Fokuz is part of a family that also includes Celsius Recordings and Influenza Media, which publish under their own names. Its Rinse FM show takes the music beyond the release catalogue, mixing label tracks with exclusives and underground selections. Episodes have included sets from Sub:liminal and a programme devoted to Lenzman, giving listeners a chance to hear the records together in a mix as well as explore the individual releases.
