Alpha Rhythm is Michael Gorman, a US drum and bass producer whose music centres on melody, atmosphere, and carefully placed vocals. Based in Pittsburgh, he has also built a regular meeting point for liquid listeners through his mixes, videos, and production community.
His early releases included music on Influenza and Celsius, before Fokuz Recordings became a recurring home. The relationship suits his interest in tracks that work as songs as well as parts of a DJ set. Collaborations are a significant part of that catalogue, with other producers and singers bringing different characters to the music.
The Citadel EP, released in 2022, included work with Natus, Echomatics, and Gemma Rose. Its combination of instrumentals and vocal tracks gives a useful introduction to his approach: enough space for a melody or voice to hold attention, supported by drums that keep the music moving.
The album The Planets followed in 2024, extending those collaborative relationships across a larger project. Away from individual releases, Alpha Rhythm's regular podcast and online community make the listening and teaching sides of his work visible. They offer a place to hear his selections, follow developing tracks, and discuss production, keeping the connection between making music and sharing it close.
