BRK launched Hyperactivity Music in Marseille in January 2017, following work with local bass music collectives. His experience included the Future Skankerz Prod association, founded in 2012, before crowdfunding helped finance the new label’s first releases.
The campaign reached its €2,900 target through 106 contributions, with Gunston’s Smart Project EP scheduled for 20 January 2017. That community backing helped turn the label from a plan into a release programme.
French artists and producers from further afield have since contributed, including Leks, Speaker Louis, ArpXP, and Dr Meaker. The Polychrome compilations bring several artists together, while label nights and radio activity give Hyperactivity Music a presence beyond the records.
