Behind the label

The Ministry of Sound Recordings story.

Ministry of Sound Recordings began in 1993, taking the name of the South London nightclub into artist releases and compilations. Dance music is central to the catalogue, with DJ Fresh among its connections to drum and bass. Sigala, London Grammar, and Example have also been part of its artist line-up.

Sony Music UK acquired the recording business in 2016, including its artists, back catalogue, and compilations. The nightclub and wider Ministry of Sound brand were separate from the label business included in that acquisition.
