Lee UHF opens Louder Than Words, the new series and sub-label from Dirtbox Recordings, with The Hidden. The first release connects his drum and bass production with the classic jungle and late-1990s acid techno that shaped his teenage years in the rave scene.
Dirtbox describes a rolling track built around repeating vocals, slipping bass sounds, and rising synth fills. Those acid techno influences carry a personal connection for Lee: The Hidden revisits music that helped form his taste, bringing it into the drum and bass he makes today.
The title also looks at what survives outside public view. Acid techno remains part of free-party culture, away from the mainstream club spotlight. The artwork extends that idea into everyday life online, where screens and accounts can conceal the person behind them.
That relationship between sound and imagery is central to Louder Than Words. Each contributing artist will create one track specifically for the project, with a personal meaning or story behind it. The visual direction takes influence from Barbara Kruger’s use of black-and-white photography and declarative typography, pairing track titles with graphic statements intended to provoke a response.
We explore the wider plans for music, photography, physical releases, and clothing in our feature, Inside Louder Than Words, Dirtbox’s new home for music, art and streetwear.
