Behind the music

About Bare Up.

Bare Up is Devon producer Daniel Harwood, whose drum and bass is built for a loud system and a lively room. His interest in production started young, although his first encounter with FL Studio did not last. Hearing an electronic reworking of Muse's Knights of Cydonia helped bring him back to it.

He began learning through tutorials and experimenting with ideas of his own. Beatboxing into his phone became one way to capture a rhythm or bass pattern before trying to build it in the studio. Alongside drum and bass, he explored other electronic styles, giving him more sounds to draw on when a track needed a different starting point.

Rampage Recordings became an important home for his music. Why Waste Your Time collected tracks including Crazy, Sacrifice, and Yut, showing how much of the project's appeal comes from direct hooks and heavy drops. His releases have also connected him with audiences beyond the usual drum and bass channels.

Can't Stop found a particularly receptive audience on social media. Sigma heard the track and released it through their BeatsBassLife imprint, giving it a further route into clubs and playlists. It is a useful introduction to Bare Up: a producer whose tracks are designed to make their point quickly, while leaving enough of a hook for listeners to come back.
