Behind the music

About Billain.

Billain, the moniker of Sarajevo-based producer and sound designer Adis Kutkut, stands as one of the most forward-thinking figures in experimental drum and bass. Emerging from the turbulent post-war landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina, his early experiences shaped a fiercely creative vision that fuses complex sound design with cinematic intensity. Initially trained in visual arts, Billain transitioned into music production in the early 2000s, quickly gaining recognition for his high-octane, neurofunk-inspired releases and a meticulous approach to sonic architecture.

His breakthrough came with a string of releases on respected imprints such as Bad Taste Recordings, Renegade Hardware, and Eatbrain. Tracks like Boogie and Blockfield showcased his ability to combine aggressive rhythms with mind-bending sound design, marking him as a key player in the evolution of neurofunk. With each release, Billain pushed the boundaries of what was sonically possible within drum and bass, establishing a reputation for innovation and uncompromising quality.

Beyond the club circuit, Billain has contributed sound design to films, video games, and artificial intelligence research, earning acclaim for his expansive technical knowledge and creative versatility. His Nomad's Revenge EP and conceptual LP Lands Unbreached blurred the lines between music and science fiction storytelling, weaving dystopian narratives through complex auditory landscapes. His passion for analogue synthesis, field recording, and audio experimentation has elevated his status beyond producer to multidisciplinary sound artist.

Billain's live sets are known for their precision and immersive energy, often combining audio-visual elements that reflect his background in art and design. Whether performing in intimate clubs or on major festival stages, he delivers an intense and cerebral experience that commands attention. As a leading force in both the underground and wider electronic music spheres, Billain continues to inspire a new generation of producers through his technical mastery, visionary approach, and refusal to conform to stylistic norms.
