Chimpo

Chimpo is a Manchester producer, DJ, and vocalist whose music moves between drum and bass, grime, hip-hop, dancehall, and dubstep. His recording work and performances draw on that range, with his voice forming another part of the music alongside his production.

His collaborators include Calibre, Dub Phizix, Skeptical, Zed Bias, Trigga, and Footsie. He is also part of Levelz and Richie Brains, two collective projects that place collaboration at the centre of their output. Releases on Exit Records, Metalheadz, Critical, and Soul:r sit alongside the music he puts out through his own label.

He established Box N Lock with friend and collaborator If Khan. They developed the label’s releases and presentation through conversations about what they wanted to do differently. His albums include HIA in 2020 and Outside in 2021, followed by Don’t Worry About It in 2024.

His work with Salo includes I Don’t Care and Started With You, the latter made with Zed Bias for Dogger’s Precinct label in 2022. It began with a chord idea in Bias’s studio; Chimpo then added drums at home before Salo wrote her contribution.
