Behind the music
About Collette Warren.
Collette Warren is a singer and songwriter whose voice has become a familiar part of drum and bass. Born in Birmingham and based in Bristol, she brings jazz phrasing and a love of the music to collaborations that can be intimate, warm, or built for a crowded dancefloor.
Her connection with D&B began on the dancefloor, with EZ Rollers’ Lady Roller making an early impression. Work as a backing singer for Tali helped build her confidence, while Desire with Skeptical on Soul:r gave her scatting and jazz influences a place within a very different rhythm.
The 2018 Hidden Lines EP on Innerground Records brought several of those relationships together. Its collaborators include Calibre, DJ Marky, Tyler Daley, Quadrant, and Iris, with Warren’s voice connecting the tracks.
In 2021, she and Riya released Two Sides of Everything and founded Carnelian Music. The label puts vocalists at the front of its releases, giving singers and MCs an identity beyond a feature credit. A remix album, More Sides of Everything, followed in 2023, taking their songs into different corners of D&B while keeping the voices central.
