Behind the music
About DC Breaks.
DC Breaks are Dan Havers and Chris Page, a British drum and bass production duo whose catalogue combines club tracks with vocal songwriting. They signed to RAM Records in 2010 and released their debut album, Different Breed, in 2017.
The record brought together material developed over several years, with different strands of their production finding a place on the same album. DCXV followed in January 2021, extending their album catalogue alongside singles and remixes.
Their studio work also reaches other producers through sample packs and tutorials. Discussing that side of the project, they explained that the sounds came from their own sessions, including drum samples and synthesiser presets. They wanted the material to be useful enough that they would use it themselves, rather than keep the strongest ideas out of the packs.
Page has described keeping notes of sounds that catch his attention, then returning to those ideas when a studio session needs fresh inspiration. He also favours taking breaks and listening again with rested ears. Those practical habits offer a glimpse of the work behind the finished records, beyond the duo's appearances in clubs and festivals.
