Behind the music

About DJ Limited.

DJ Limited makes drum and bass with a junglist’s love of breaks and a jump-up producer’s ear for a bassline. The Norwich artist has described his own sound as jungly jump-up, a combination that allows the older rhythms and newer low-end ideas to work together.

He grew up making music alongside his older brother, Upgrade, with shared equipment and an early appetite for experimentation. Support from Fatman D led to releases on Biological Beats, including Two Left Feet. That EP drew on the jazz and swing of older V Recordings and Full Cycle material, giving his jump-up a different rhythmic shape.

Later records pushed the bass sounds further. The Vibrations EP with Sub Zero preceded his work with Playaz, where The Jaguar / The Elephant appeared in 2019. The Jaguar developed from an older jungle idea, retaining a break-led opening before moving into a heavier drop.

Limited has spoken openly about the long wait involved in getting music heard and signed. His eventual connection with DJ Hype followed years of work, with the finished records showing how much his sound had grown without losing its original jungle roots.
