DJ Ruffstuff built his drum and bass reputation primarily behind the decks. His sets draw on a broad record collection, moving between the weight of Dillinja and DJ Hazard and the more musical records of Roni Size, Calibre, and Artificial Intelligence.
Kool FM was a substantial part of that development. His regular shows, often alongside MC Fun, brought the mixing and selection to listeners away from the club. The partnership gave the broadcasts their own character, with Ruffstuff keeping older records in circulation alongside new dubs.
He also held a residency throughout Movement’s 13 years at Bar Rumba in London. That long association with the night led into festival bookings, while his work with the V Recordings camp helped take Chronic and Philly Blunt Records releases to clubs beyond the capital.
The recording catalogue includes The Mystical / Whats Up, Nap Sack / New Nightmare, and The Procedure / Get Down, as well as Chronic mix releases. He won Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2010 DNB Awards in Birmingham, recognition for a career built around the skill of playing the music. For listeners coming to his profile through a single track, the radio and club history is a substantial part of the picture.
