Behind the music
About Echo Brown.
Echo Brown makes soulful drum and bass with the grain and warmth of hip-hop. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, he favours hazy chords and understated drums, letting a tune’s mood carry as much of the weight as its bassline.
His connection with Lenzman began with a message on SoundCloud. Show You appeared on The North Quarter’s Quarter to Quarter compilation in 2020, followed by the six-track Struggles EP in February 2021. Those records introduced a producer comfortable working at both drum and bass and hip-hop tempos.
On Struggles, KinKai joins him for Affirmations, while Abnormal Sleepz provides the introspective vocal on Tug O War. The latter is a hip-hop track, part of a project that gives its different moods room to develop. Echo Brown described writing through worries about health, money, relationships, and discrimination, making the EP a personal account of pressures many listeners would recognise.
He has characterised his D&B as deep, techy liquid, having moved away from an earlier jump-up phase. Later projects including Midnight Static, OffSweet, and Galvan Place continue the catalogue on his own artist page, with the same interest in texture, emotion, and rhythm connecting the work.
