Klinical is a drum and bass producer drawn to the space between a big build-up and a stripped-back drop. Minimal arrangements are a clear part of his sound, but liquid has a place in the catalogue too, giving the darker records something softer to sit beside.
He began DJing before producing, playing house parties and helping Kanine run Tuesday drum and bass nights at Junk while they were at university. That small student audience gave him a place to learn how a set worked and what happened when a new tune reached a proper soundsystem.
His early productions were jump-up, but hearing Arkaik, Amoss, and Fre4knc in clubs helped turn him towards minimal drum and bass. Rotate and Science, released through Lifestyle Music, were the first records in that direction; both were played on Noisia’s radio show.
Validity / M2U on Context Audio showed the range more clearly. The former pairs a dramatic introduction with a sparse, sub-heavy drop, while Klinical described M2U as liquid. He has also been closely involved with Overview Music, suggesting its early various-artists release. The contrast between those records matters: a recognisable approach does not require every tune to have the same mood.
