Behind the music
About L-Side.
L-Side is Leonardo de Jesus Silva, a producer and DJ from Ribeirão Pires in Brazil’s São Paulo region. Hip-hop beats came before drum and bass, and that interest in rhythm and funk remains part of his minimal, dancefloor-focused productions.
DJ Marky first supported his tracks on the Terremoto radio show, then signed music for Innerground Records around 2013. His relationship with V Recordings developed into another lasting connection, with Bryan Gee hearing new tracks early and helping bring vocalists into the studio picture.
His album Carnal Mind brought those ideas into a longer release. At SunAndBass in 2017, he played Don’t Look Back with MC Darrison, who joined him on stage to perform the vocal. It was a memorable meeting of the record and the person behind it, rather than simply another track in a set.
Later collaborations include Jah Creation with MC Det and Bad Boy with Inja. The latter came from sessions with Selecta J-Man in Bristol, which also produced We Ruff. His remix of Break’s Gunshot Love keeps that interest in voices and atmosphere close to the heavier production. Soulful records and rougher club material both belong within the L-Side catalogue.
