Lockjaw is the drum and bass project of Canberra producer Louis Fourie, a co-founder of Locked Concept. His approach starts in the studio rather than in the demands of a DJ set. In a 2019 UKF interview, he explained that producing had always been separate from DJing, leaving him free to make music without treating the dancefloor as its only purpose.
That independence also shaped the label. Locked Concept pairs music with visual art and gives its artists control over how their work is presented. Fourie used it to release Human Research, followed by a remix album and the Unconscious EP. Looking back on those records, he described an increasingly subtractive process, reducing arrangements to the drums, bass, and a small number of essential sounds.
His background includes studying guitar and jazz, with his understanding of melody and harmony still rooted in that instrument. The later Your Love/Shimmer pairing appeared on Locked Concept in 2024.
