Behind the music

About Mindstate.

Mindstate is London producer David Snaddon, whose approach to drum and bass draws on a life spent around music and skateboarding. A former professional skater, he met Dogger through skate competitions, with the pair swapping the tracks they were making. Sharing a flat in London gave that friendship a more focused musical direction, and they began releasing together around 2018.

He has described his natural leaning as soulful, liquid and vocal-led. Work with Dogger on 1985 Music includes Broken Home with Liam Bailey, while his partnership with Anile developed through regular Thursday studio sessions in Peckham. Those sessions became the six-track Space Notes EP for Footnotes, combining patiently layered melodies with tougher, more stripped-back tracks. Every Part Of Me brought Verbz and XIVA into that circle.

There is another side to his production in Zims, a heavier roller picked up by Doc Scott for 31 Recordings. Mindstate has also moved beyond drum and bass: Change Ain’t Easy, made with PAV4N and Vitamin G for DarkMode, explores 140 BPM rhythms rooted in hip-hop and grime.
