Behind the music
About Mooncat.
Mooncat is a Spanish producer and DJ whose jungle records keep reggae close to the heart of the music. His releases connect Melting Pot Records, Jungle Cakes, and South Yard, the label he co-founded, with vocal collaborations and remixes running through the catalogue.
Lion, featuring Lasai, is one of those collaborations. South Yard included it in the label’s first compilation, bringing Mooncat’s music together with the wider roster. The label has described broadening its drum and bass range since beginning in 2015, giving its founders room to release more than one strain of the music.
Mooncat’s own catalogue includes Nyabinghi, War ina Babylon, and Green Horns, alongside Like the Sunshine / The Last Goodbye. His remix work includes Diligent and Love You Don’t Know Me, while a collaboration with Isaac Maya revisited Sabor a Mi.
His influence reaches beyond those records. Audiomission named Mooncat alongside Benny Page and Marcus Visionary among the producers who introduced him to reggae-influenced drum and bass. That connection places Mooncat within an international exchange of jungle ideas, with Spanish releases finding their way into other producers’ record collections.
