Behind the music
About Moresounds.
Moresounds is a French electronic producer whose music connects dub with jungle, hip-hop, and the less rigid edges of drum and bass. His artist biography identifies King Tubby’s use of the studio as an instrument as a central influence, alongside hip-hop and rave. Releases through Astrophonica and Cosmic Bridge place that approach within a wider exploration of bass music.
On Show Your Respect, released by Astrophonica in 2021, the dub connection is explicit. The label describes the title track as a homage to dub’s originators, built around live effects and delay throws, while its companion Forward takes a more stripped-back approach to music at 170 BPM. The pair make the processing itself part of the composition.
Roll G In Dub took another route in 2022. Issued through Original Cultures, the nine-track instrumental album developed from an unfinished rap project, treating trap beats through Moresounds’ dub techniques.
