Behind the music
About Original Sin.
Original Sin is a British drum and bass producer whose career connects the Generation Dub partnership with Sub Zero and a substantial solo catalogue. His work for Playaz Recordings helped establish his association with jump-up, while later records and label projects gave him room to develop different parts of his sound.
He launched Energize in 2019 as an outlet for heavier tracks he had been making alongside releases for RAM Records. Discussing the decision with UKF, he explained that music such as Never Say Die, Tic Tac Toe, and Back To The Future needed a different home from the material intended for RAM.
The project also gave him control over how the records were presented. Drawing on an earlier graphic-design background, he returned to creating artwork and video material, learning the skills needed to take a release from production through to its public identity. That independence was part of Energize’s purpose, alongside its musical direction.
His interviews make clear that the heavier solo sound was one strand of a wider production practice. The Generation Dub records, Playaz-era releases, and Energize singles therefore offer different starting points for listeners. The later solo catalogue shows how he continued to adapt those ideas, with the independence of his label projects helping him release music at his own pace.
