Behind the music

About Quartz.

Quartz is Elliot Garvey, the Cardiff producer and DJ whose work connects Metalheadz, Rupture London, and the broader edges of bass music. His route into production sharpened at 16, when recordings by Teebee and artists on Creative Source opened up a wider understanding of drum and bass. Friends who were also making music provided another early spur, encouraging one another to improve.

Metalheadz became a sustained part of that development. The Hall of Mirrors EP arrived in 2018, and an invitation from Goldie that year began the process behind Interloper. Released in December 2025, the album had been completed in 2022. In an interview with DJ Mag, Garvey described it as a personal record and spoke about the discipline that came with committing to a substantial body of work.

His range is equally clear on Rupture London's Lucid EP. Russian Roulette explores halftime, while Runtime, made with War, takes a rolling approach. Discussing the former with DJ Mag, he explained how the resonances within a bongo loop became the starting point for its chords.
