Rohaan came to drum and bass through a wider world of bass music, having previously worked with trap, lo-fi and halftime. He had been a listener long before he made much D&B himself. Playing a set for Unchained Asia in London helped change that: the response when he switched into drum and bass sent him back to the studio with a clearer direction.
The results reached Mat Zo, who released Bleach on Mad Zoo in 2020. What began as a smaller collection grew when Zo wanted more of the tracks. The album gave Rohaan a firm place in the scene while keeping the unusual textures and ideas of his earlier work.
Shogun Audio approached him after hearing it, leading to Grow in 2021. Built around granular synthesis, the track belonged to the same sound world as Bleach. Other productions, including Purity, continued the relationship between detailed percussion, vocal fragments and bass.
Visual ideas often come first. Rohaan has described writing with colours on a monitor, hearing Traffic as purple and I Found You as mint green. Architecture, textures and objects can suggest a track just as readily as another record. That approach helps explain a catalogue that moves comfortably between drum and bass and slower, more experimental bass music.
