Smeerlapp is a Hannover musician, drum and bass producer, and audio engineer whose background includes drums, guitar, and playing in a metal band with his father. His route into production grew from that instrumental experience, followed by a degree in music technology.
His early drum and bass work explored neurofunk, with releases through Hanzom Music and RAM Records’s ProgRAM. The Clickbait EP brought together three tracks, including Kicksville with Thrive, while later collaborations have included work with BorkerBrothers and HighThere.
Outside his own releases, Smeerlapp teaches production and guitar and works in mixing and mastering. His Smeery Podcast series also gives space to DJ mixes and guests, linking the studio work with the wider music he plays.
In 2023 he joined GIANT22 for Same Same, released as the twelfth chapter of EPO22 Music Tales. The label highlighted the track’s departure from standard 16-bar phrasing, alongside its rolling bass and intricate drums. His catalogue also includes Vault93 with HighThere on BrainRave Music and remixes such as his version of Gourski’s Reincarnation.
