Behind the music

About Smooth.

Smooth is the drum and bass project of Slovenian producer Luka Per. His relationship with Viper Recordings began with Under the Moon on the 2009 Acts of Mad Men compilation, followed by the single 7th Sense / Squirm in 2010. Those releases established a catalogue built around detailed introductions, melodic synth writing, and sharply contrasting drops.

The Blinded By The Light EP expanded that range in 2012, while Virgo Cluster paired an anthemic drum and bass title track with Nowhere, featuring Tasha Baxter. Viper described the latter as drumstep, making it a clear example of Smooth changing rhythmic approach within his own releases. The Sky’s Gonna Break, with Shaz Sparks, brought a more soulful vocal focus the following year.

He has also worked with Markoman as part of Telekinesis. Markoman appeared on Kronos, the companion track to Drone, allowing a connection between that partnership and Smooth’s solo catalogue without making the two interchangeable. Alongside his originals, Smooth produced remixes for acts including Matrix & Futurebound, Camo & Krooked, and Dirtyphonics.

His Viper work continued with Where We Began/Earthquake in July 2026. The pairing again set contrasting approaches beside each other: the label presented Where We Began as a buoyant roller and Earthquake as a heavier dancefloor track. It provides a recent counterpart to the blend of melody and impact established by his early releases.
