Behind the music
About Sunchase.
Sunchase is Ukrainian producer Alexander Pavlenko, whose music extends from drum and bass into dubstep, IDM, and other electronic forms. Originally from Dnipro, he moved to Kyiv in 2010, a change he later identified as an influence on his second album.
His early drum and bass catalogue included releases on Moving Shadow, Metalheadz, and Hospital Records. The debut album Static Nitro appeared in 2010. A decade later, Timeline became the first release on the Ukrainian label Kashtan, combining drum and bass and dubstep rhythms with quieter, more abstract material.
Pavlenko described recording kalimba, percussion, and voices with a dictaphone while making Timeline, drawing ideas from nature and the weather. The album credits also place its mastering at his 22:22 studio. He also runs the label 22:22 Records, releasing further Sunchase material such as Scanning, Termites, and Black Suite, alongside a remastered edition of Static Nitro.
