Behind the music

About Teej.

Teej’s drum and bass is rooted in deep basslines and tightly placed drums, with room for jungle and soulful liquid alongside the darker material. Tape packs, school friends and free parties first brought him towards electronic music. Club DJing followed, then production became the part he most wanted to explore.

His releases have appeared on Flexout Audio, ThirtyOne Recordings, Sofa Sound and Trust Audio. Nice Up The Dance became a turning point as it reached a wider circle of DJs, while his own catalogue also includes a dedicated liquid collection. He treats that music differently, aiming for a lasting mood as much as immediate club impact.

Collaboration is important to the way he works. Regular partners include Tweakz, Objectiv and Resslek, and he likes MCs to have a say during production rather than simply delivering a vocal. The aim is a track made together, with each person changing what the other might have written alone.

After co-running OCC Recordings, he started Nyx Recordings as a home for deep, dark music. Bristol provided friendships and introductions that helped him find his place, including an early invitation from Kyrist to a night at Trinity. Label work, mastering and teaching now sit alongside his own studio practice.
