Behind the music

About Tim Reaper.

Tim Reaper is Ed Alloh, a London producer whose love of jungle began with a school assignment. Comparing music magazines for GCSE Media Studies, he picked up a copy of Mixmag with an Andy C CD attached. The energy of that mix sent him looking for more, with online forums soon opening up the music’s history.

Hearing Dred Bass and Super Sharp Shooter drew him further towards jungle. His own productions developed around the movement and character of breakbeats, with early hardcore and techno influences sitting alongside deep atmospheres and sub-bass. He traces samples back to their original sources, aiming to retain some of their texture rather than polish everything flat.

The Lanterns releases on Repertoire helped bring that sound to more listeners. Working with Dwarde, he also developed the Globex Corp series, their shared love of jungle and quick studio workflow feeding a prolific partnership.

Future Retro London began as an idea for a club night, but the pandemic changed its first steps. The Meeting Of The Minds releases brought producers from different countries together before the events could happen. The label became a wider introduction to contemporary jungle, giving new artists opportunities alongside established names. Reaper’s records and DJ sets belong to that same community, joining the music’s older language to a busy present.
