Wardown is the solo project of Pete Rogers, one half of Technimatic. It gives him space for personal material outside the duo’s work, combining jungle and ambient music with a collage of voices, recordings, and remembered places.
The self-titled debut, released by Blu Mar Ten Music in November 2020, centres on Rogers’ childhood home of Luton. Returning to visit his grandfather in 2019 brought his relationship with the town into focus. Family recordings, teenage mixtapes, local field recordings, and fragments of documentaries about Bedfordshire’s free-party history became part of the album’s account of memory and dislocation.
In a 2022 interview with A Strangely Isolated Place, Rogers connected its musical approach with the expansive intros and breakdowns of jungle records he had loved as a teenager. He also described collage as an interest stretching back to childhood and his graphic-design studies.
Wardown II, released in September 2022, widened the perspective from personal memory to the futures imagined during the 1950s and 1960s. Its samples explore the gap between those promises and the present. A third album, Wardown III, followed on Blu Mar Ten Music in December 2024.
